Identification and treatment of chinch bugs, mites and other turf insects that cause yellow, dying patches in hot weather.
In the heat of summer, sunny parts of the lawn can turn yellow, then straw brown, and look like drought stress even when you water. One common cause is chinch bugs, tiny insects that suck sap from grass blades and inject a toxin that kills the plant. Mites, billbugs and other pests can cause similar damage, and the symptoms often appear along driveways, sidewalks and sunny slopes where the lawn heats up the most. Without a close look, it is easy to treat the wrong problem.
We inspect the turf and the thatch, and test for insects when damage matches the pattern. If a pest is found at damaging levels, we apply an insect control product suited to the species and the grass type, following the label. We also review watering, mowing height and feeding, because stressed lawns are more vulnerable. After treatment, we advise on recovery steps, including overseeding or patching, and recommend monitoring in hot weather. The sooner a lawn problem is correctly identified, the faster it recovers.
Insect damage can resemble drought, so we examine the turf before deciding what to treat.
Driveways, sidewalks and sunny slopes heat up and show chinch bug damage first.

Watering, mowing height and feeding help the lawn resist and recover from insect pressure.
